National Retirement Security Month

October is National Retirement Security Month. The goal of National Retirement Security Month is to raise public awareness about the importance of personal savings in retirement. Take time to review your personal retirement goals and determine if you are on track to meet those goals. If your personal retirement savings could use a boost, the SDRS Supplemental Retirement Plan (SRP) can help. With as little as $25 per month, you can be on your way to a more financially secure retirement. Call an SDRS-SRP Retirement Specialist at 605-224-2230 to get started!

To help spread the word about National Retirement Security Month, the National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators (NAGDCA) put out several short web videos about the importance of personal retirement savings. Take a few minutes to check them out!

Start early!
If you are just starting out in your career and retirement seems far away, remember it's what you do now that will affect how much personal savings you will have when you retire. See how the effects of saving early and compounding interest can work for you to help you better prepare for retirement.

Keep it going and growing!
In the middle of your career, you should be regularly contributing to your personal retirement savings plan. Regular maintenance, including making necessary adjustments or additions over the course of your career, will help you achieve your retirement savings goals.

Your future depends on you!
Regardless of the size of your personal retirement savings plan, its sole purpose is to help provide for YOU in retirement and help supplement your retirement income. Your personal retirement savings plan is important and will play a significant role in your future financial security.
