SDRS Office Closed Until August 3, Events Being Rescheduled

A Message to Our Members and Employers:

The South Dakota Retirement System (SDRS) thanks each of you for your patience as we are navigating through the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. While SDRS has continued to operate during this time, we have kept the doors of our office closed to visitors for their safety and for the safety of our staff so that we could maintain a workforce dedicated to serving our members and employers. During this closure time, the office is undergoing some renovations to the reception area and consultation rooms to keep our members and staff safe during in-person visits.

As we work to get our office back to normal, we will be opening our doors once again to visitors August 3, 2020, with the understanding that we will be mindful of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) regulations and guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. For SDRS, this means that staff will be following various guidelines and safety measures. Visitors are urged to consider these guidelines and safety measures as well.

Guidelines for SDRS visitors beginning August 3, 2020:

  1. Please continue to make every effort to conduct SDRS business by telephone or online. SDRS staff have been available to respond to telephone calls and emails throughout the pandemic. Before coming to the office, please call to see if your needs can be handled over the telephone. Our toll-free number is 1-888-605-SDRS (7377). Staff are available to take your call or respond to your email Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (CST). Also remember that our website, sdrs.sd.gov, provides many helpful resources.

  2. Visits to SDRS will be by appointment only. Visitors needing to discuss their accounts in person should first call SDRS to arrange a scheduled time to speak with a retirement planner. Individuals who need to come to the SDRS office should note that only a limited number of guests will be allowed at any given time to help maintain proper social distancing guidelines as prescribed by the CDC.

  3. Visits are for individuals only. While we prefer that members not be accompanied by other individuals, we understand that some individuals may require one additional person for physical assistance. In these cases, the additional person will be encouraged to return to his or her vehicle during the member's appointment.

  4. Per CDC guidelines, visitors are asked to wear a cloth face covering during their visit in the office.

  5. Any visitor who has been exposed to COVID-19 in the last 14 days, has symptoms of COVID-19, or does not feel well is asked to stay home and conduct SDRS business by telephone or online.

  6. Finally, by entering the SDRS office, each visitor confirms that:
    • He or she has not had one or more of the following in the last 14 days:
      • A fever;
      • A cough that cannot be attributed to another health condition;
      • Shortness of breath that cannot be attributed to another health condition;
      • A sore throat that cannot be attributed to another health condition;
      • Nasal congestion or runny nose that cannot be attributed to another health condition;
      • Body aches;
      • Loss of taste and/or smell;
      • Diarrhea;
      • Nausea;
      • Vomiting;
      • Sweats; or
      • Chills.
    • He or she does not care for or live with someone who has COVID-19 symptoms (fever and symptoms listed above) or who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
    • He or she has not been exposed to someone with a positive COVID-19 test in the last 14 days.

SDRS Events

We plan to resume our in-person individual counseling sessions throughout the state beginning in August. An updated schedule will be posted on the SDRS website as soon as it becomes available. Extra precautions will be taken during and following each counseling session to protect our members and staff and to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We are currently unable to hold in-person group events due to social distancing guidelines. We will utilize video conferencing via ZOOM to conduct group events for the foreseeable future. Please check the SDRS website and Facebook page for the availability of these events.

We thank each of you for your careful consideration of these guidelines as the state and SDRS begin their safe return to additional services. Please continue to take care of yourselves and stay well! Thank you!
