A Generational member's retirement benefit is a single-life benefit; however, a married Generational member may make an election at retirement to provide a surviving spouse benefit to the member's eligible surviving spouse. If a Joint & Survivor benefit is elected, the member's retirement benefit is actuarially reduced to provide for the surviving spouse benefit. The member may elect either 60% or 100% Joint & Survivor.
If a married member elects 60% Joint & Survivor benefit, 60% of the member's benefit would be payable to the member's eligible surviving spouse.
If a married member elects 100% Joint & Survivor benefit, 100% of the member's benefit would be payable to the member's eligible surviving spouse.
